Delite Spices was initially established in 1985 with our original name of Spice Delite. It was first run by Mrs. Tayob, selling our unique blend of home-made spices.
Through humble beginnings, the business grew over the years until Abdool Tayob realised the niche in the market for the great range of spices to be made available to the wider public. Together with his son, Mohamed, they embarked on a new venture of supplying the trade with our home-made brand of spices in 1993. This proved a successful venture and the business grew in leaps and bounds, to be distributed country-wide in a short space of time.
All the while, the small 'factory store' where it all began, in Tongaat, continued to grow in range through the years. It stocks a huge variety of home-made spices and masalas, a large variety of grains, nuts, dried fruit, a variety of basmati rice and all types of baking and allied products.
After many successful years, the family took a decision to sell off the wholesale arm of the business and concentrate only on the retail store in Tongaat. Out of this was born the new name of 'Delite Spices' in 2009. With the business going back to basics, to manufacture our home-made brand of spices in a smaller, more controlled manner, has brought back the finer quality aspect of the product.
Diligently, this has continued to be going on over the years until today. We still import all our own spices, which are processed, roasted, milled and mixed to our traditional recipe and standards, handed down over decades.
The third generation of family has now joined the business during the year of the 'lockdown' and, with it, the identification to feed the need for an online presence in this modern day of e-commerce.
The great surge in demand for this service from loyal clients far and wide across the country has spurred us into gearing ourselves to embark on this new arm of our business; to make available, online, all of our freshly made spices and everything else available in-store.
The most important fact to note, is that we make all our own spice blends in-house; from the importation of our spices to processing, milling, blending and packing all our spices in our store. This is very important as we have control over our products and know exactly what goes into our blends from start to finish. Very few 'spice stores' have this factor to be proud of, and we have more than 35 of years of experience in this business to back this up.
Our mission is to keep on doing what we have done from our inception, only to improve and try to do it better. We are always looking at innovating and going the extra mile to formulate new blends that will keep up with our exacting demands and our customers’ high expectations.
We are constantly assisting all religious, welfare, social and schooling institutions in our locality all year round. This relates particularly to feeding schemes, to which many of our loyal customers will attest to. This is not done for name or fame, but in a genuine desire to assist the needy in any way possible. This is very close to our hearts as this is our hometown into which generations have been born. It is a way to give back to the community that has helped to build the name of our brand.
